Delegates E. Smith and Lavars moved –
THAT this Council demands that the Government lift the ban imposed by the Menzies Government upon the Communist Party, in order that the Communist Party may play a full part in the National War effort, and so help to build the National Unity for the defeat of the Axis Powers in 1942.
Delegate Monk moved - as an amendment –
THAT this Council is of the opinion that the time is opportune for the ban on the Communist Party to be lifted.
Delegates Chalk and Osborne moved –
THAT Delegate Monks time to speak be extended.
Carried.
Delegate Coull moved - as a further amendment –
THAT the Federal Government be requested to immediately lift the ban on the Communist Party.
Delegates Edwards & Frank moved –
THAT the question be now put. Carried.
Vote; Delegate Monk's amendment on being put to the vote was declared to be LOST on the voices.
Delegate Coull's further amendment was than put to the vote and declared to be LOST.
The motion was thereupon put to the vote and declared to be carried.
MEETING closed at 10 p.m.
